Osijek is a city in eastern Croatia, situated in a plain on the right bank of the Drava River. It is the largest city in Slavonia, the fourth largest city in Croatia, and the city with the most greenery and green areas in Croatia - the city has 17 parks covering a total area of 394,000 m².
It is the major cultural center of Slavonia and Baranja. In Osijek, there is also a museum of national importance, the Museum of Slavonia, where rich collections of items related to the history of Slavonia are preserved. Additionally, Osijek has something truly special on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list - licitar. In the Middle Ages, craftsmen from Central Europe began to intricately decorate gingerbread cookies, and from the 18th century, this craft developed into its current form in Croatia.
